The Commonwealth Alliance of Medical Professionals on Antimicrobial Resistance (CAMP?AMR) was established to provide a unified, Commonwealth?wide response to the escalating “silent pandemic” of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). AMR undermines effective treatment of infectious diseases, increases morbidity and mortality, and imposes substantial economic burdens on health systems across all income settings. Building on recent high?level political meetings at the United Nations and in Jeddah, CAMP?AMR harnesses the convening power of the Commonwealth Medical Association (CMA) and its National Medical Associations to translate international frameworks into coordinated, context?responsive action. The alliance was launched during the 27th Biennial Conference of the CMA in Chennai in November 2024, where senior leaders from multiple Commonwealth countries endorsed a shared vision for strengthening stewardship, surveillance, infection prevention and control, and public engagement. By leveraging the extensive grassroots reach of National Medical Associations, including large membership bodies such as the Indian Medical Association, the alliance aims to embed responsible antimicrobial use and AMR awareness across clinical practice, medical education, and community outreach. CAMP?AMR thus offers a scalable, profession?led model for regional collaboration that can accelerate implementation of global AMR commitments and help safeguard the effectiveness of antimicrobials for future generations.
